Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson, was born in Paris France of British parents Jacqueline Luesby Watson and Chris Watson both attorneys. The couple relocated to Oxfordshire when she was five years old and attended the Dragon School. Emma was inspired to become an actor at age six. For several years, she attended the Oxford branch Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. There she learned singing, dancing and acting. The actress had performed in several Stagecoach and school productions by the time she turned ten. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2000) the 2001 version from J.K. Rowling's bestselling British book began in 1999. Emma was discovered as a casting agent by her Oxford drama teacher. David Heyman announced to Emma that after eight consecutive auditions Emma as well as Rupert Grint were chosen as Hermione and Harry Potter. Emma's first film appearance came with the release of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (2002). The film set records for its opening and weekend ticket revenues, and was the top-grossing 2001 film. Critics were impressed with the film and its performance. The Daily Telegraph, a well-read British publication, has praised Emma for her performance. Emma's performance was recognized and was awarded five awards for the movie.
